    Event Staffing Agencies in Chicago

Chicago splits into three markets that barely share a supplier, and knowing which one you are buying in saves most of the wasted calls. The convention floor runs through McCormick Place and its show calendar — IMTS, the National Restaurant Association Show, RSNA, PACK EXPO — where the requirement is booth staff and lead retrieval. Production runs alongside it, and in this city that means union AV and stagehand crews with jurisdiction rules attached. Catering and hotel banquet work runs separately again, across the Loop, River North, the West Loop and Fulton Market.

    20 firms screened · 8 met the criteria · last reviewed 2026-08-17

Union labour is the structural fact that makes Chicago different from every other city in this series. The Labor Connection describes itself as the signatory employer of the union crews it supplies, carrying payroll, benefits and workers' compensation for them. Show Crew Chicago exists to handle union labour consultation and payroll for production companies. On a convention floor here, the question is not only who you hire but who is permitted to perform a given task — settle that before you contract, not on load-in morning.

Kitchen roles are published by three of the eight firms. HSG Chicago has the deepest published back-of-house roster in this comparison — dishwashers, polishers, stewards, porters, expeditors, prep and line cooks, chefs — as a named section rather than an implication. WD Hospitality Staffing publishes back-of-house and chefs as service lines. NYE Staffing publishes kitchen helpers and buffet attendants, which is kitchen assistance rather than a kitchen crew. The other five are promotional, guest-services or production firms and do not staff kitchens at all, with TSM Agency saying so outright on its own page.

Employment status is published by three firms: NYE Staffing and Julia Valler both state W-2, and The Labor Connection publishes an employer-of-record position for union crews. Five publish nothing either way. The comparison covers eight firms with a client-facing Chicago page on their own domain, ordered by how squarely that published offer matches event staffing rather than by any score. Firms a buyer will meet in local results but that we could not source honestly — including Instawork, which is on our other city lists — are named further down with the reason.

    How this list was built

We screened 20 firms; 8 met the inclusion criteria.

We started from twenty firms surfaced by searching for event, catering, convention, trade show and hospitality staffing in Chicago, including the agencies appearing in local results for those searches. Every claim on this page had to be verifiable on the firm's own website — directory listings, marketplaces, map listings and review sites were not accepted as a source for a firm's own claims. Firms whose Chicago page turned out to be a lead capture form, a job posting or national copy with no Chicago detail were kept out of the main list. Eight firms met the bar. They are ordered by how squarely their published offer matches event staffing in Chicago, not by any score, and we publish no ratings or review counts. Where a firm a Chicago buyer will plainly encounter is not on this list, we name it below and say why — including Instawork, which appears on our other city lists but does not publish enough Chicago-specific detail to compare here. DishwasherHero is one of the firms operating in this market, so treat this as a comparison written by a participant: we say where we fit and, just as plainly, where we do not.

National marketplaces and national staffing firms are included here, and labelled as such. A Chicago buyer's real options include national players, and a comparison that hid them would be less useful. Where a firm is a marketplace rather than an agency, or a national account rather than a local team, its card says so.

Three firms in this comparison publish employment status for their Chicago staff: NYE Staffing and Julia Valler both state their staff are W-2 employees, and The Labor Connection states it is the signatory employer of the union crews it supplies, carrying payroll, benefits and workers' compensation. DishwasherHero publishes W-2 as well. For HSG Chicago, WD Hospitality Staffing, TSM Agency, ATN Event Staffing and Air Fresh Marketing, classification is not published on their sites, so we could not verify it. That is a limit of what is on the public record, not a finding about how those firms operate. Chicago adds a wrinkle other cities do not: on the convention floor, union jurisdiction can decide who is allowed to perform a task at all, so ask about union status as well as classification.

    Markets served

local coverage. Runs a dedicated Chicago site for clients and applicants. Coverage is described at the metro level rather than by named venue, so venue-specific experience is worth confirming on a call.

    Engagement model

    Not published

Describes a flexible schedule where staff pick their own shifts, and publishes certification support such as BASSET and ServSafe, but does not state W-2 or 1099 classification anywhere on the site.

    Who they suit

Hotels, banquet halls and caterers in Chicago that need front-of-house, kitchen and housekeeping from one vendor, and value certification and training over a published employment-status answer.

    2.

    WD Hospitality Staffing

    Regional agency
    Not published

Family-run Chicago hospitality staffing company operating since 2000, serving Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan across service, kitchen and facilities roles.

    • Bartenders and baristas
    • Chefs and food prep
    • Back-of-house staff
    • Housekeeping and janitorial
    • Valet and security

Publishes back-of-house as its own service line alongside chefs and food prep, so kitchen labour is stated rather than implied. Role titles within each line are not itemised, so confirm exact positions on a call.

    Markets served

regional coverage. Based in Chicago and states coverage across Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan, describing work from a single black-tie gala in the city to larger Midwest operations.

    Engagement model

    Not published

Describes itself as a family-run business supplying staff but does not state whether staff are W-2 employees or contractors, so classification is unverified.

    Who they suit

Chicago caterers, private hosts and Midwest commercial clients that want one vendor covering service, kitchen and cleaning for the same event rather than contracting each separately.

    3.

    NYE Staffing

    National agency
    W-2 employees

    • Check-in and registration staff
    • Brand ambassadors and promotional staff
    • Setup and breakdown crew
    • Cleaning staff

Publishes kitchen helper and buffet attendant among its bookable roles, so there is some back-of-house support, but no cooks or dishwashers are named — this is service-side staffing with kitchen assistance rather than a kitchen crew.

    Markets served

local coverage. Publishes a Chicago office on North State Street and names Downtown, River North, the West Loop, the Gold Coast, the Magnificent Mile and Fulton Market, plus wedding work in Lincoln Park and Lakeview.

    Engagement model

States directly that all of its Chicago staff are W-2 employees hired and trained in-house. Published on its own Chicago page, so verifiable.

    Who they suit

Downtown corporate accounts and repeat hosts who want one W-2 vendor covering service staff, registration and event crew for the same date, and only need light kitchen support rather than a full BOH team.

    4.

Private hosts, caterers and brands running weddings, galas or corporate receptions in Chicago who want polished W-2 service staff and a captain, and are sourcing the kitchen elsewhere.

    5.

    The Labor Connection

    Local agency
    W-2 employees

Chicagoland event labour firm specialising in convention, trade show and entertainment production, acting as the signatory employer for union crews.

Union AV, stagehand and production labour only. No service, kitchen, promotional or housekeeping roles appear anywhere on the site.

    Engagement model

    Who they suit

Show organisers and exhibitors at McCormick Place and other Chicago convention venues who need union AV and stagehand crews, and want one party carrying union payroll and jurisdiction risk.

    6.

    Markets served

local coverage. Names McCormick Place across its North, South, West and Lakeside buildings, plus Wintrust Arena, Navy Pier Festival Hall, the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center and the Schaumburg Convention Center.

    Engagement model

    Not published

    Who they suit

Exhibitors booking a McCormick Place show who need booth engagement, demos and lead capture from staff who know the halls — and who have catering handled elsewhere.

Publishes decades of experience and a large staff database but no classification statement, so employment status is unverified.

    Who they suit

When another agency is the better call

Some needs are not event staffing, and no firm on the main list is the right answer for them. These firms are — each one verified on its own website.

    • Goodwin Recruitingpermanent hospitality hiring

Publishes permanent placement for front-of-house, back-of-house, operations and leadership roles in Chicago hospitality. That is a recruiting model for salaried posts, not staffing for a single date.

Goodwin Recruiting Chicago hospitality recruiters page (retrieved 2026-08-17)

    • Morgan Securitylicensed event security

Publishes venue and event security officers across Illinois and Indiana for arenas, marathons and public events. Security is licensed work and sits outside event staffing — book it with a security firm.

    • Show Crew Chicagounion labour consulting and payroll

Firms we screened and left off, and why

These firms turn up in Chicago searches — several in the map pack — but did not make the main list. Rather than omit them silently, here is each one and the reason.

    • Instawork

Seen in: Chicago organic results · checked 2026-08-17

Its Chicago event staffing category page carries generic marketplace copy without the Chicago-specific role detail its pages in other cities publish. Instawork is a real option for Chicago buyers and appears on our Las Vegas, New York, San Diego and Denver lists — here there was not enough city-specific published detail to build an honest card, so we name it rather than pad one out.

      https://www.instawork.com/category/event-staffing/chicago

    • Kinetic Events Staffing

Seen in: Chicago organic results · checked 2026-08-17

Its Chicago page uses generic nationwide copy with no Chicago venues, no named roles beyond brand ambassadors and no classification statement on that page. Kinetic publishes far more detail for other cities, so we left Chicago off rather than describe it from another market's page.

      https://kineticevents.com/locations/chicago-brand-ambassadors/

    • Promo Social

Seen in: Chicago organic results · checked 2026-08-17

Search results suggest it publishes a W-2 claim for Chicago event staff, but we could not confirm that wording on its own page during this screen. We do not publish a classification claim we have not read on the firm's own site, so it waits for the next review.

      https://promosocial.com/event-staffing-chicago/

    • EventStaff

Seen in: Chicago organic results · checked 2026-08-17

Its Chicago page is largely a lead capture form with staff-type checkboxes and no Chicago positioning, venue detail or classification language to verify. There was nothing substantive on the firm's own domain to source.

      https://eventstaff.com/city/chicago

    • Marketingtemps Event Staffing

Seen in: Chicago organic results · checked 2026-08-17

Its site returned effectively no readable content on fetch, so roles, coverage and classification could not be verified from the firm's own domain.

      https://www.mymarketingtemps.com/

    • Premier Event Staff

Seen in: Chicago organic results · checked 2026-08-17

The only page that surfaced on its own domain is a job posting rather than a client-facing service page, so there was no firm-level Chicago positioning or role list to verify.

      https://portal.premierhospitality.com/job-detail/34

    • 2Xclusive Talent

Seen in: Chicago organic results · checked 2026-08-17

Publishes general promotional modelling copy with no Chicago-specific venues, roles or classification detail on its own site, so there was no city-level claim to source.

      https://2xclusivetalent.com/

    • CEA Staffing

Seen in: Chicago organic results · checked 2026-08-17

Describes itself as a nationwide brand ambassador staffing firm with no Chicago page, venues or role detail we could locate on its own domain.

    Where DishwasherHero fits in Chicago

DishwasherHero staffs back-of-house only in Chicago: dishwashers, kitchen porters, prep cooks, line cooks, general cleaning and banquet BOH support. We do not staff booth teams, brand ambassadors, registration desks, bartenders or stagehands. For a McCormick Place show floor, TSM Agency and ATN are built for that and we are not; for union AV crews, The Labor Connection is the only firm here that carries that risk properly.

We are not the only back-of-house option in this city either. HSG Chicago publishes a fuller kitchen and stewarding roster than we do, covering polishers, expeditors, housemen and chefs alongside housekeeping, and WD Hospitality Staffing covers kitchen, service and facilities together across the Midwest. If you want one vendor for the floor, the kitchen and the cleaning, both are direct and credible choices, and it would be dishonest to suggest otherwise.

What differs is narrower than scope. Our staff are W-2 employees and we publish it; neither HSG Chicago nor WD Hospitality Staffing publishes classification, so a buyer with an employer-of-record requirement can verify ours and has to ask them. On the published-status point we are one of four here, not one of one — NYE Staffing, Julia Valler and The Labor Connection all publish theirs too, and The Labor Connection's union employer-of-record position is a stronger commitment than most. Our second difference is speed: we fill same-day where a shift is open.

The case for calling us is narrow: a restaurant, caterer, hotel or venue food operation that has service covered and cannot staff the kitchen behind it, at short notice, with people whose employment status is verifiable. For a full FOH-plus-BOH banquet crew booked in advance, HSG Chicago or WD Hospitality Staffing is the more direct fit.

Trade show and convention staffing in Chicago

McCormick Place dominates this market and the firms built around it say so. TSM Agency names all four McCormick buildings plus Wintrust Arena, Navy Pier Festival Hall and the suburban Donald E. Stephens and Schaumburg convention centres, and states outright that it does not supply bartenders, wait staff or banquet servers. ATN Event Staffing has worked Chicago activations since 2002 and names McCormick Place, Navy Pier, Soldier Field, Grant Park and Millennium Park. Air Fresh Marketing covers registration and VIP desks at downtown hotels alongside its trade show work.

Book early for the major shows. When IMTS or the National Restaurant Association Show is in town, every local booth roster is committed and agencies bring staff in from outside the metro. Confirm your load-in window and any union jurisdiction requirements before you contract booth staff, because what your team is allowed to touch on the floor is not always what you assumed.

Union labour and production crewing in Chicago

This is the part of the Chicago market that surprises out-of-town buyers. The Labor Connection supplies stagehands, AV production labour and live event crewing across Chicagoland and states that it is the signatory employer for that union labour, carrying wages, benefits, health insurance and workers' compensation. Show Crew Chicago, listed further down as an out-of-scope referral, provides union labour consultation and payroll to production companies rather than staffing events directly.

If your event involves rigging, staging, audio or lighting at a convention venue, treat production labour as a separate contract from event staff, and ask early which tasks fall under union jurisdiction. Getting that wrong costs time on site, and it is the one question a general event staffing agency cannot answer for you.

Catering, banquet and hotel staffing in Chicago

Independent of the convention calendar, Chicago has a dense hotel-banquet and catering economy, and three firms here serve it. HSG Chicago publishes the fullest roster — front-of-house, kitchen, stewarding and housekeeping — with certification support such as BASSET and ServSafe. WD Hospitality Staffing has operated since 2000 and covers Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan. NYE Staffing and Julia Valler both cover the service side downtown with published W-2 status.

For a catered event, book kitchen roles before service staff. Servers and bartenders can usually be sourced close to the date in this city; a dish and prep team for a large plated dinner cannot, and a short dish pit stalls plating inside the first hour. Neighbourhood matters too — several firms market coverage by area, and a Fulton Market venue is a different sourcing problem from a suburban convention centre.

    Chicago event staffing FAQ

For service and promotional staff, most firms here will quote within a few days and many will fill same-week. For kitchen and back-of-house roles, allow four to six weeks for anything over twenty people. Major McCormick Place shows such as IMTS and the National Restaurant Association Show, plus Lollapalooza and the summer festival run, tighten availability across every firm at once.
